The First Time Homebuyers Program (FTHB) assists Kansans to purchase their first home. A household must be income eligible and not have owned a home in the last three years. There are certain areas not eligible to participate in the program, so the program does not assist properties in the city limits of Topeka, Wichita, Lawrence, Kansas City nor Johnson County. Approved applicants will receive a soft loan that is forgiven over time. The loan may range from 15 to 20 percent of the purchase price of the home, depending on your amount of income. Buyers are required to make a minimum investment of two percent of the sale price and at least $500. Participating lenders process the FTHB paperwork along with the first mortgage loan. The participating lender applies to the FTHB program for the applicant.
